What qualities make a reporter great?

Could it be objectivity? A calm demeanor to stay cool under pressure? Or possessing the proper time-management skills to always meet deadlines?

These characteristics are vital for a journalist to be successful. Yet, there are merely two qualities that set apart the great from the good: curiosity and empathy.

As a full time reporter, my desire to constantly learn inspires me to dive deeper, allowing me to help readers understand complex issues and how they may be impacted. My deep rooted empathy drives all my decisions, and as someone who deeply cares about those around me, amplifying the voices of those in my local communities isn’t just a job. It’s an honor.

Utilizing a keen eye for detail developed through my studies at the University of Florida, I have brought local news to life through my stories published in The Islip Bulletin, The Suffolk County News, and The Long Island Advance.

I pride myself not only on meeting every deadline, but in carefully crafting captivating stories that inform, shock, and entertain, bridging divides in local communities and promoting shared experiences.

Through the creation of my own website, I have uploaded all of my published news articles to one place where I can document my growth. As I continue advancing in my career, I aim to challenge myself and expand my skill set, while never losing the curiosity and empathy that fostered my passion for journalism in the first place.
